Right in the middle of the Turnhout Vennengebied lies the Klein Engelandhoeve, the ideal starting point for a very enjoyable nature walk. There you will find a walking map of the area, or you can taste a selection of local beers. The 17 kilometre-long Vennen Walk leads you right through the stunning and varied natural beauty of the area. In fact, this area has an abundance of marked walking routes in addition to the Vennen Walk.
Our location offers ideal cycling opportunities. The Landlopers Route and the Binken Route are two permanently marked cycling routes of 55 kilometres and 59 kilometres in length, respectively. In addition to those, cyclists can compose their own cycling trips according to their desired distances and directions using the so-called cycling route network (Dutch: fietsknooppuntennetwerk).
The Bels Lijntje passes just behind our garden. Once this was the site of a railway line from Turnhout to Tilburg in the Netherlands, but nowadays 33 kilometres of this railway bed have been paved for recreational use. The Bels Lijntje forms a direct cycling connection between Belgium and the Netherlands. Above all, though, the old railway bed is a paradise for cyclists and hikers. Along the Bels Lijntje, just a stone's throw from Svilla, you will find an observation tower which offers a panoramic view of the Turnhout Vennengebied.
Most of the shops in the area are located on and around the Gasthuisstraat. This street leads to the Grote Markt (2.2 kilometres from Svilla). You can also do some shopping in the Winkelpark XXL located on the Steenweg op Gierle (5 kilometres from Svilla).
